In celebration of the Nutrition Month, let’s take a closer look on the issue of breastfeeding. Well, hardly can you see now a mother nursing her child with her own breast milk. They now rely on commercially prepared milks, especially the working mothers who do not have enough time to breastfeed. But do you know that breastfeeding is the best, safest and most recommended way of nursing a baby? Even the World Health Organization intensified its campaign on this, after all it is the most nutritious milk ever formulated by nature – at least for us human.
According to my friend Wiki (short for Wikipedia), milk is the primary source of nutrition for newborns before they are able to eat and digest other foods; older infants and toddlers may continue to be breastfed, either exclusively or in combination with other foods. It is recommended that exclusive breastfeeding be done for the first six months of life, with solids gradually being introduced around this age when signs of readiness are shown. Supplemented breastfeeding is recommended until at least age two and then for as long as mutually desired by mother and child wish.
For some reasons, breast cancer can also be prevented and it can also help our mothers body return to its pre-pregnancy state faster. But for a mother to give her child the proper nutrition, she, herself must also maintain a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle. So, a word of advise then for the mommies: ‘breastfeed your babies’.
